Abstract
The study was conducted to find out the academic performance of indigenous pupils in Senote Elementary School, School Year 2015-2016.
Included in the study were the Grade IV, V, and VI indigenous pupils of the said school. it looked into the profile of the pupil-respondents; their academic performance; the factors affecting the pupil-respondents' academic performance as perceived by the teachers and the pupils themselves; and the significance of the difference between the perceptions of the teachers and pupil-respondents on the factors affecting academic performance.
Descriptive survey method was utilized in the study with the questionnaire-checklist as the instrument used in gathering the needed data. Frequency counts, percentage, Weighted Arithmetic Mean and the z-test were the statistical tools employed to arrive at the correct interpretation of data.
The study revealed that majority of the pupil-respondents were 10-12 years old, males and who belonged to large families. Many were Roman Catholics, whose parents were in the elementary level earning a monthly income of Php1000 to Php3000.
The academic performance of the pupil-respondents was "Fair." The pupil-respondents' academic performance was always affected by the intellectual, environment, socio-economic, health, and teacher factors as perceived by the teachers and pupils themselves. There was no significant difference between the perceptions of the teachers and pupil-respondents on the factors affecting academic performance.
This study recommends that DepEd implement feeding program to the pupils to feed their empty stomach; that the school provide conducive classrooms and adequate materials to the pupils; that the Local Government Unit continue the livelihood projects for the parents to support the financial and educational needs of their children; that the parents monitor the lessons of their children; and that a similar study be conducted to determine the academic performance of indigenous pupils in other schools.
